This post is an attempt to formalize a new economic model for Ethereum. The goal is to create a model that is more robust to attacks, more efficient, and more fair than the current model.
Key Features:
- Dynamic Block Size: The block size would be dynamically adjusted based on network congestion.
- EIP-1559 Fee Mechanism: The fee mechanism would be based on EIP-1559, with a base fee that is burned and a priority fee that goes to the miner.
- Proof-of-Stake (PoS) Consensus: The consensus mechanism would be Proof-of-Stake, with validators staking ETH to secure the network.
- Slashing: Validators would be slashed for malicious behavior, such as double-signing or attesting to conflicting blocks.
Potential Benefits:
- Increased Security: The dynamic block size and slashing mechanism would make the network more resistant to attacks.
- Improved Efficiency: The EIP-1559 fee mechanism would make the network more efficient by reducing fee volatility.
- Fairer Distribution of Rewards: The PoS consensus mechanism would distribute rewards more fairly by rewarding validators based on their stake.
Open Questions:
- How to determine the optimal block size?
- How to prevent validators from colluding to manipulate the block size?
- How to ensure that the slashing mechanism is fair and effective?
