Every technological revolution has its “uh-oh” moment.
The dot-com boom had bubble-burst. Early cloud computing had mass outages. Social media had… well, everything that’s happened since 2016.
None of these killed the technology. But each forced a collective reckoning: maybe we should slow down and think about this.
As we enter 2026, AI is poised for a big uh-oh.
Not an extinction-level event. Not Jurassic Park. Not Skynet. But a highly visible, undeniably AI-caused failure. The kind of unmitigated fuster-cluck that makes executives, regulators, and Joseph Q. Sixpack all stop mid-scroll and say, “Wait… should this really be running everything?”
It won’t happen because AI is evil (yet). It will happen because humans are inherently impulsive, greedy, and short-sighted and we adopted AI too broadly, too quickly, and with far too little human oversight.
